Orediggers headed to Division II national championship game in McKinney, Texas Saturday

When the Colorado School of Mines football team takes the field for the NCAA Division II national championship game Saturday in McKinney, Texas (11 a.m., ESPN+), it will certainly do so with a full roster of in-state and out-of-state talent.

While Texas native John Matocha has quarterbacked the Orediggers (13-2) to the program’s first national championship appearance, plenty of student-athletes with ties to Boulder, Longmont and Broomfield have pitched in to the unprecedented season.

Here are the players from area schools listed on the 2022 Mines football roster, with season statistics or game participation if applicable:

Mason Dickerson (Legacy High), Fr. — Did not participate in any games in 2022.

Hall Edmonds (Broomfield High), Fr. (redshirt) — Played in 13 games, registering 23 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks.

Matthew Eich (Broomfield High), So. — Made 9 of 14 field goals with a long of 47 yards, while also nailing 61 of 66 PATs for 88 total points.

Ben Fuchs (Monarch High), Sr. (redshirt) — While playing in all 15 games, registered 30 total tackles, with four tackles for loss, one sack and two quarterback hits.

Cole Johnson (Fairview High), So. (redshirt) — Played in eight games along the offensive line in 2022.

Nathan Mackey (Mead High), Sr. (redshirt) — Did not participate in any games in 2022.

Mac Post (Centaurus High), Sr. (redshirt) — Did not participate in any games in 2022.

Braelon Tate (Legacy High), Fr. — Did not participate in any games in 2022.

Kyle West (Skyline High), Jr. (redsirt) — Did not participate in any games in 2022.

Michael Zeman (Holy Family), Sr. (redshirt) — One of the best players to grace the field for Mines in recent seasons, Zeman has scored 25 touchdowns this season to go along with 1,528 all-purpose yards while playing in all 15 games.
