It seems the accolades for Broomfield football haven’t stopped rolling in.

On Friday, CHSAA announced that Blair Hubbard, who led the Eagles to a perfect 14-0 record and to their first state championship in the sport since 1984, was named the Denver Broncos’ high school football coach of the year.

The second-seeded Eagles continued their season-long dominance, defeating No. 4 Loveland 24-14 in the Class 4A state championship.

From the previous season, Broomfield had an improvement of nine wins this fall. That’s the second-biggest jump in victories, per CHSAA.

“Honors like this are really program honors because so many people need to be heading in the same direction for all of it to work out in the end,” Hubbard said. “Our staff of coaches take pride and work hard at preparing our players, and our players trust what our coaches are teaching them. Then they execute on the field and great things happen. I’m indebted to our seniors for being great leaders on and off the field for us this year.”

The Eagles were led by a strong senior class, namely quarterback and Wisconsin commit Cole LaCrue (2,647 passing yards, 46 passing and rushing touchdowns), championship game Most Outstanding Player Canon Juarez (718 offensive yards, eight touchdowns, state record for 109-yard pick-six), Luke Francis (1,291 yards, 12 touchdowns) and star defensive end Garrett Keeler (119 tackles, five sacks, two fumble recoveries).
