With the next segment of prep sports right around the corner, the Colorado High School Activities Association announced vital details regarding the upcoming basketball campaigns on Monday.

Notably, CHSAA will require hoops players of both genders to wear masks while competing on the hardwood during the abbreviated season. And speaking of the shortened slate, CHSAA also publicized that each program’s 2021 schedule will include 14 regular-season contests.

Additionally, playoff brackets at the Class 1A, 2A and 3A levels will shrink from 32 teams to 24 squads this year. In the 4A and 5A realms, the postseason field diminishes from 48 qualifiers to 32 in 2021.

Prep basketball teams must compete in seven games to be eligible for the playoffs while league champions will still receive an automatic postseason bid –– with CHSAA utilizing its seeding index to determine the rest of each state tournament bracket.

As a component of CHSAA’s Season B, high school hoops commences official practice on Jan. 18 before tipping off the campaign on Jan. 25. Three days following the regular season’s conclusion, playoff action begins on March 9 en route to March 19-20’s state championships.
