An extremely difficult day for the local sports scene just got more bleak late Thursday night, as it was announced by the Colorado High School Activities Association that the remaining rounds of all prep basketball tournaments at sites along the Front Range has been cancelled.
A late-night release from CHSAA explained the because of the University of Denver’s closing of all its facilities, and the City of Denver’s declaration of a state of emergency, the 3A tournament was the first to be called off.
“With uncertainty at all additional sites … the difficult decision has been made to cancel the remainder of all state basketball tournaments in all classes,” the release read.
Locally, Holy Family and Shining Mountain’s girls team had won on Thursday to set up their weekend. The boys teams for Mead and Fairview were slated to play Friday night at the Denver Coliseum.
