Former Fairview AD Carol Callan named to Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

She’s served as USA Basketball Women’s National Team director since 1996

Former Fairview administrator and current CU radio analyst Carol Callan was named to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday. Callan has served as the USA Basketball Women’s National Team director since 1996.

Carol Callan, who has provided color commentary on Colorado women’s basketball broadcasts for nearly four decades, was named to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday.

Callan is one of seven members of the 2020 Hall of Fame class, joining former players Debbie Brock, Swin Cash, Tamika Catchings and Lauren Jackson and fellow contributors Sue Donohoe and Carol Stiff.

Currently, Callan is the USA Basketball Women’s National Team director, a position she has held since 1996. She has directed six consecutive gold medal-winning Olympic teams. Beginning in 1996, the National Team has a record of 100-1 in World Cup and Olympic competition.

In addition, Callan chairs the National Team Steering Committee, National Team Player Selection Committee and the Developmental National Team Committee for USA Basketball. She also serves as the President of FIBA Americas and is a member of the FIBA Competition Commission.

Before becoming the National Team Director, Callan spent seven years as a volunteer committee member. She served on USA Basketball’s Executive Committee as secretary from 1992 to 1995, and from 1989 to 1995 was a member of the Women’s Player Selection Committee and served as chair from 1992-95. Additionally, Callan was a member of the Women’s Programs Committee from 1992-95.

For more than 35 years, Callan has worked on CU women’s basketball broadcasts.

Callan has earned two master’s degrees from the CU in business administration and physical education. She also spent 10 years as director of athletics/activities and two years as an assistant principal at Fairview High School.
