Gustavo Gutierrez, Broomfield soccer: The Eagles secured their fourth state championship in the past six years with outstanding team effort, but it was Gutierrez’s wherewithal to follow up on his own penalty kick opportunity that stood as the lone goal in the 5A title game.
Cailyn Gasser, Broomfield volleyball: The Eagles envisioned a better 5A state tournament, to be true, but Gasser was consistent in many aspects of the game in their two matches. She had eight kills on 22 attempts, had two service aces, and garnered six total blocks.
Jesse Isenhart, Dawson School soccer: Isenhart, a senior, had a tremendous state championship game performance in a 2-1 loss to Ridgway, scoring his 19th goal of the year to help keep the Mustangs in the game until the bitter end.
Jess Amend, Erie volleyball: The Tigers went 1-2 at the 4A state tournament with one of those losses a five-setter against Montrose, and Amend was the key piece to keep EHS’ offense rolling throughout. Her setting all season gave Erie a balance that helped it to a tremendous 2019 campaign.
