FIRST TEAM

Alexis Bernthal, So., Fairview: How locked in was Bernthal after falling in the 2018 5A No. 2 finals? Well, the sophomore didn’t lose a set — not one — over the entire season.

Lily Chitambar, Fr., Boulder: Taking fourth in 5A No. 1 singles in her first season at the high school level, Chitambar also went 1-1 against runner-up Sophie Pearson of Fairview — the latter, an impressive three-set classic in the second round of state that went Pearson’s way in the end.

Lucy Lu, So., Niwot: The two-time BoCoPreps.com player of the year, who is also the 4A player of the year, didn’t drop a set in the state tournament for the second straight season and has only lost one match in that span.

Sophie Pearson, Sr., Fairview: The senior marched to the final in a very deep 5A No. 1 singles field before falling to Smoky Hill’s Valerie Negin. The player who clinched a state title for the Knights as a freshman graduates as one of the tennis program’s most decorated athletes.

Trini Somasundaram, Sr., Peak to Peak: She didn’t lose more than one game in any set during her title run in the 3A No. 2 singles postseason bracket. It was her second state title and the Somasundaram sisters’ fourth overall.

Trisha Somasundaram, Sr., Peak to Peak: The 3A state player of the year won her second straight state title, mowing through the postseason field in straight sets.

Laura Cook, Sr., and Savannah Cook, Sr., Monarch: The Cooks’ only loss of the season came in three sets in the No. 2 doubles state semifinals. They finished third at 5A state.

Sarah Devereux, Sr., and Julia Garfinkel, Sr., Dawson School: The senior duo survived a three-set battle in the second round of the state tournament against the team from Lutheran, then didn’t drop a set in the semifinals and finals to win state.

Maedee Trank-Greene, Jr., and Lily Sieben, Jr., Niwot: The two played with different partners and won a state title a year ago, then teamed up to win another in No. 2 doubles this spring.

Anna Sallee, Fr., and Georgia Lang, Fr., Niwot: The freshmen combo certainly didn’t look intimidated by the high school stage, going undefeated at No. 3 doubles.

Coach of the year — Eric Carlson, Peak to Peak: The first-year coach led the Pumas back to the top of Class 3A. At his deploy, the Somasundaram sisters were again golden at top, and sophomore Tiffany Tran’s third-place finish at No. 3 singles created space from runner-up D’Evelyn in the state tournament.
