Aubri Braecklein made a swift transition to high school golf in 2018 with a sixth-place finish in the Class 3A state tournament. Now a year older and wiser, she and the rest of Jefferson Academy’s girls golf
team have their eyes on a bigger prize.
They proved as much by running away with the team title during Monday’s Class 3A Region 3 tournament at Highland Hills.
Braecklein finished first individually with a 6-over 78. Junior Trinity Stuart placed third after shooting an 87; senior Lauren Alberts shot a 94 to finish sixth overall; and senior
Valeria Jimenez carded a 109 to tie for 18th. All four golfers will represent Jefferson Academy at the Class 3A state tournament at Eagle Ranch Golf
Club on May 20-21.
“I’m really excited that we’re going as a team. I’m looking forward to doing better, not hitting into all the trees again,” Braecklein joked. “I think the experience of having state last year kind of shocked me a
little bit. So I think I’ll do better because I know what’s going to happen. I think that experience will help all of us.”
The highlight of Braecklein’s performance came on the par-5 15th, a hole she birdied en route to a six-stroke lead for the individual title. The Jaguars’ 43-over 259 easily claimed the team championship as
they beat second-place Resurrection Christian by 42 strokes.
