Girls golf: Regional roundup for Monday, May 6

Broomfield sends three to 5A state tournament; will be joined by Monarch’s Blackard

High school girls golf regionals took place across the state on Monday and will continue on Tuesday. On Monday, several Class 5A Front Range League teams were in action including Boulder, Fairview, Monarch, Broomfield and Legacy.
Here is a roundup of how local teams fared:

Class 5A Central Regional
Monarch and Fairview competed at Kennedy Golf Course, a region won Monday by Arapahoe with Fossil Ridge also finishing second. No Coyotes or Knights were able to succeed in qualifying for the state tournament, but Yulim Kim (Monarch) and Anna Bergman (Fairview) led their teams with respective rounds of 92 and 94.

Class 5A Northern Regional
The Broomfield Eagles had the best finish of any local team Monday, placing fourth overall and sending three individuals to the state tournament May 20-21. Leading the way were Nicole Fatovic and Meghan Vogt, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with rounds of 79 and 82. Not far behind was Ana Cole, who carded a 92 to get in the qualifying field.
Boulder also competed in the Northern Regional and finished 12th overall.

Class 5A Southern Regional
Legacy placed ninth overall at Foothills Golf Course, a region where Cherry Creek and Highlands Ranch emerged as the team qualifiers. However, the Lightning’s Mia Blackard shot a 90 to finish in a tie for 19th place and in a playoff for the final state qualifying spot from the region. The sophomore managed to pick up that final slot and will be playing on May 20-21.
