HIGHLANDS RANCH — A huge run put Prospect Ridge Academy in command in the early goings on Monday night as the Miners seemed as if they couldn’t wait any longer to get back into the win column.

Bryson Cuss scored 17 and Austin Leopold added 15 points in a 55-48 win over SkyView Academy. Micah Smith added 12 points.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the Miners (5-12, 2-6 3A Metro League), who won for just the second time since the winter break.

And it came with little doubt.

Prospect Ridge Academy went on an 18-0 run in the opening half and led 31-15 at the break. Andrew Johnson, Smith and Luehr each had four points as the Miners turned an early 5-0 deficit into an 18-5 advantage.

The Hawks (6-10, 1-6) cut the deficit to 10, 47-37, late in the fourth quarter before Prospect Ridge countered with an 8-0 run to seal the win. Making the game closer than what is was, the Highlands Ranch school scored 11 straight points in the final minute.

Like the girls, the Miners finish the season with Peak to Peak on Friday and Stargate School on Feb. 12.
