LONGMONT — Don’t count this Silver Creek boys basketball team out just yet.

The Raptors walked into the locker room at Silver Creek on Tuesday night with a sub-.500 record and looking uphill at a brutal second half of 4A Northern League schedule to come. They walked out with a win over one of Class 4A’s top-10 teams.

Things didn’t appear to get any easier with No. 9-ranked Centaurus making the trip up to Longmont, but the Raptors put the clamps on and came away with a 66-44 win.

“It’s a really nice win,” Silver Creek head coach Bob Banning said. “They’re a top-ranked team and they have one of the best players in the conference but we shot the ball well. We did a great job of sharing the basketball tonight and that’s why we won.”

The Raptors pulled away in the second quarter, during which they outscored Centaurus, 17-6. Andrew Duquette scored a game-high 22 points and Spencer Rich scored 19.

Despite a rough start to the season that was marred by injury, the Raptors feel like things are looking up.

“That’s the plan,” Banning said. “This is a good place to start. This helps in the RPI and with the exception of one game, we have played well the entire season. We’ve had a lot of close games. I think we’ve played really well, defensively, and when one team is shooting a little bit better than the other team, that makes a big difference.”

Up next, Silver Creek will play at Longmont at Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, Centaurus will play at Mountain View.
