Cross country: Quinn McConnell awarded Colorado Gatorade athlete of the year

Peak to Peak cross country runner Quinn McConnell was named the Gatorade girls cross country runner of the year for the state of Colorado on Monday morning, adding to her impressive list of accomplishments as a prep star for the Pumas over four years.

A two-time state champion and top-three finisher in Class 3A all four years, McConnell held some impressive times this season both in-state and at national races.

She won her fourth straight league and regional titles in 2018, and ran what was the nation’s eighth-fastest time at 17:00.10 in September at the Desert Twilight Festival in Arizona. She committed to Furman in November, and also in November took fifth (17:15) at Nike Cross Regionals Southwest in Casa Grande, Ariz.

According to‘s Ryan Casey, this is the first time a Peak to Peak student athlete has earned the award.
