Alumni corner: Legacy grad Tajon Buchanan drafted 9th overall in MLS SuperDraft

Legacy High graduate and 2016 boys soccer player of the year Tajon Buchanan was drafted No. 9 overall in Friday’s 2019 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, taken by the New England Revolution.

Buchanan had been playing at Syracuse, playing his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Orange after a short stint in Lightning threads. His collegiate career included 12 total goals, six assists and All-ACC accolades both seasons. He was a first-team pick as a sophomore.

A native of the Canadian province of Ontario, Buchanan found his way to Legacy and played his senior year for coach Tony Romano. He led Class 5A in goals with 21 his senior season.

The website said Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Brad Guzan and Jack Harrison are some of the top players to pass through the program.
