The Broomfield soccer team celebrates after winning the 2017 Class 5A state championship last November. The Eagles open the 2018 season ranked No. 1.

Preseason rankings were released by on Monday in several fall sports, and local teams are sprinkled throughout.

Topping the list is Broomfield soccer, the defending Class 5A state champions, which is ranked No. 1 in the initial poll. The Eagles’ Front Range League rival Boulder also cracks the top five, checking in at No. 4. The Panthers’ crosstown rivals from Fairview are sixth, while Legacy received the most votes of teams outside the top 10.

State runner-up Centaurus claims the No. 2 spot in the 4A soccer poll, one spot ahead of the Warriors’ rivals from Niwot. Skyline opens the year ranked sixth.

Jefferson Academy is ranked No. 5 in the 3A soccer poll, one spot ahead of Peak to Peak, and Dawson School claims the No. 1 spot in the first-ever 2A rankings.

In the preseason football poll, Fairview opens the season ranked No. 5 in the 5A poll.

Broomfield (No. 3) and Skyline (No. 10) open the year ranked in 4A, while Longmont and Monarch are among the group of teams also receiving votes.

Erie, coming off it’s exciting run to the state title game, opens the year ranked No. 2 in 3A behind the defending champions from Palmer Ridge. Mead opens the year at No. 7 while Frederick and Holy Family are among the others receiving votes.

Holy Family (No. 2), Niwot (No. 4) and Longmont (No. 9) start the year ranked in the 4A volleyball poll, while defending champion Lyons is No. 2 in the 2A rankings.

In softball, Legacy is Non. 4 in 5A. Erie (No. 3), Silver Creek (No. 4) and Holy Family (No. 6) all open the season ranked in 4A.
