Practice fields across Boulder County will be filled with activity today as the 2018-19 prep sports season gets underway.
Monday marks the start of the 98th school year under the Colorado High School Activities Association as teams can officially begin practice for all fall sports.
The turnaround before regular season contests begin is a quick one, especially for boys tennis, boys golf and softball, which can start play on Thursday, Aug. 9. Next Thursday, Aug. 16, play begins in cross country, gymnastics, boys soccer and volleyball.
Football will not have a Zero Week this season, and teams can hold scrimmages on Aug. 16 and Week One play starts on Aug. 23.
Local football teams won’t ease into the season, either, as the opening Friday night (Aug. 24) features several marquee matchups: Broomfield hosts crosstown rival Legacy; defending 4A state champ Pueblo South travels to Holy Family; and Fairview battles Boulder in the 54th Boulder city championship game.
