100 – JAKE WACHTER, So., Mead: The Most Valuable Athlete from the Boulder County Invitational, he finished 13th in the 4A 100-meter sprint.

200 – MAX CARTER-KEMP, Sr., Fairview: On top of his seventh-place finish in the 400, he took 17th in 5A in the 200-meter dash.

400 – HUNTER PAYNE, Jr., Mead: With a time of 50.24 seconds, he finished fourth in the 4A 400-meter finals to add to his haul of three medals from the state meet.

800 – RASCE ENGELHARDT, Jr., Holy Family: Possibly the biggest surprise of this year’s state meet, the Tigers junior won the 3A 800-meter title despite entering the event seeded 15th.

1,600 – JAMES LEE, Jr., Silver Creek: Finishing runner-up to Valor Christian super sophomore Cole Sprout, he edged Niwot’s Cruz Culpepper for second place in 4A with a time of 4:19.80 and also won the 800-meter title.

3,200 – MICHAEL MOONEY, Sr., Broomfield: With a winning time of 4:16.15, he won the 5A state championship to go with his 1,600 title and complete his sweep of the two longest distance events.

110 hurdles – CHARLEY SAGRILLO, Jr., Centaurus: Entering the state meet seeded ninth, he ended up placing sixth in 4A with a time of 15.03 seconds.

300 hurdles – MITCHELL GORMAN, Sr., Broomfield: After placing fourth last season, he won the 5A 300-hurdles state title with a time of 37.83 seconds.

400 relay – MEAD (Ryan LaVanchy, Nathan Bailey, Dom Esters, Jake Wachter): With a time of 44.10 seconds, this group placed 11th and nearly missed the cut for the 4A finals heat.

800 relay – BROOMFIELD (Trey Ortega, Caden Peters, Mitchell Gorman, Caleb Foreman): Barely edging the team from Castle View at the finish line, the Eagles took sixth place with a time of 1:29.38.

1,600 relay – SILVER CREEK (James Lee, Brock Dykema, Logan Simington, Daniel Ford): With a time of 3:22.73, this group took second in the final event of the 4A meet to clinch the team championship for the Raptors.

3,200 relay – MEAD (Justin McDaniel, Hunter Payne, Isaac Dukes, Jack Weiss): Taking the top spot on the podium, the Mavericks won the state championship with a time of 7:55.55.

High jump – CAMERON CARLSON, Sr., Niwot: Capping his senior season, the Cougars leaper cleared 6-02 to finish in a tie for 10th place in 4A.

Pole vault – MAX MANSON, Jr., Monarch: The Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year, he cleared 17-03.50 to win the 5A state title and break his father’s 32-year-old state meet record.

Long jump – NOAH ROPER, Jr., Erie: A relative newcomer to track and field, the football standout finished 11th in 4A with a mark of 19-10.

Triple jump – TRENT DYKEMA, Sr., Silver Creek: Hitting a mark of 44-09.75, the senior placed fifth in 4A for the team-champion Raptors.

Shot put – SAMUEL DIRKES, Jr., Silver Creek: Though he failed to record a mark at the state championships, he still set the state’s best mark from the entire season of 57 feet even and also placed third in the discus.

Discus – HENRY CARLSON, Sr., Skyline: With a mark of 142-10, he capped his senior season with a ninth-place finish in the 4A discus at state.

Coach – JACY RIEL, Silver Creek: With just an eight-man state meet lineup, Riel helped guide the Raptors to an exciting down-to-the-wire team championship in Class 4A.
