There’s only one week left in April and the final conference standings in most sports are starting to take shape. There’s still plenty of time for those standings to shift so here’s a look at some of the more compelling contests coming up this week.
Baseball
Broomfield at Monarch, Tuesday, 4 p.m.
Both Broomfield (9-4, 6-2 Front Range) and Monarch (8-4-1, 4-2 Front Range) enter with similar records. Looking to remain in the top half of the Front Range League standings heading down the home stretch, each team will be looking for an edge over the other in this local matchup.
Skyline at Mead, Thursday, 4 p.m.
This cross-town conference game features two Tri-Valley League teams hovering around the .500 mark and looking for a strong finish. The Skyline Falcons have lost two of their last three and the Mead Mavericks have lost four in a row, so it will be critical for both teams to take the opener of this two-game series.
Girls soccer
Broomfield at Boulder, Tuesday, 7 p.m.
The Broomfield Eagles are still undefeated and the Boulder girls have been on a roll so this Front Range League contest should be a good local rivalry game. Hailey Stodden leads Broomfield, which will play No. 2 Rocky Mountain on Thursday, with 18 goals and seven assists, while Alia Mentzell leads Boulder with eight goals.
Holy Family at Silver Creek, Friday, 4 p.m.
A big cross-conference matchup between two top 10 teams in Class 4A, unbeaten No. 2 Silver Creek will represent the Northern League and No. 10 Holy Family will represent the Tri-Valley League. Sophomore Alexa Karsel leads Silver Creek in points while Holy Family is led by Nicolette Sandoval.
Boys swimming
Legacy at Fairview, Tuesday, 4 p.m.
This should be an exciting local dual between two teams with state medalist potential in the lineup. Fairview’s John Paul Phillips, in particular, has the potential to steal the show with his performance in multiple events.
Girls golf
Front Range League Invite #4, Thursday, 8:30 a.m.
Hosted by Fossil Ridge, Broomfield, Legacy, Boulder and Fairview will all be looking to make a late push in the conference standings. Broomfield is currently in second place behind Fossil Ridge through three matches and Fairview’s Kelsey Webster holds a six-stroke lead in the individual standings.
Boys lacrosse
Valor Christian at Dawson School, Tuesday, 4:15 p.m.
The fifth-ranked Valor Christian Eagles are coming to town to take on No. 1 Dawson, a team that won not one but two games at the buzzer last week. This game also is a rematch of the last two Class 4A state championship games, both of which were won by Valor Christian.
Girls lacrosse
Centaurus at Kent Denver, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.
The Warriors appear to be playoff-bound but they’ll need to finish strong through their final three games, all of which will be on the road and against strong competition. Kent Denver will be the first of their final opponents and the Warriors will need their duo of 34-point scorers in Delaney Pratt and Campbell Breithaupt to be in their usual form.
Girls tennis
Front Range League Championships, Wednesday, 9 a.m.
Hosted by Greeley West, Boulder, Broomfield, Fairview and Legacy will be playing for conference championships. Things could certainly get interesting with all the talented singles players spread across the BoCoPreps.com teams.
Track and field
Longmont Invite, Friday, 3 p.m.
Here’s another high-level local meet, and if you’ve been paying attention so far you know that those have been full of meet records, times and marks that rank among the top 10 statewide. Erie, Longmont, Lyons, Monarch, Peak to Peak and Twin Peaks will be among the local teams competing at this year’s Longmont Invite.
