Wrestling: Skyline takes fourth at Mike Stanley Memorial Invitational

The Skyline Falcons wrestling team finished fourth at the Mike Stanley Memorial Invitational hosted by Fairview to lead all BoCoPreps area schools.

Silver Creek finished in ninth, Fairview came in 12th, Lyons 13th, Monarch in 14th, and Boulder in 17th.

“Our young guys really came through,” said Skyline head coach Jacob Terada. “Drew Sandoval with the championship at 113 was huge, and Grayden Bridwell took second, beating a state qualifier and losing in the championship 1-0, it was a great day for him as well. And of course Jose Perez lost in the championship, but he got there.”

The Falcons’ Angel Perez finished in second place at 182, Jose Perez finished in second place at 132, and Bridwell came in second at 126.

Moving forward, Terada said his team needs to focus on getting back to the fundamentals.

“We’re making mistakes that are to be expected at this time in the season, even though you hate for them to happen. We have to go back to working on fundamental wrestling — hand fighting, finishing takedowns properly, and things like that. We have to clean it up,” he said.

Boulder’s Angel Ocon finished in third place at 285 for the Panthers’ best result of the night and Marcus Bolden finished in fourth place at 106.

For the hosts, Lex Minniear finished in 2nd place at 170 and Soren Robinson finished in fourth at 160.

Silver Creek’s Jacob Williams came in first place at 285, defeating Far Northeast’s Jason Reyes. The Raptors’ Shawn Smith finished in fourth at 170.

Lyons’ Keegan Bean took first place at 182, and Konner Mauck came in fourth at 195.

Finally, Monarch’s Zach Hacker took first at 120, Max Fredricksmeyer came in fourth at 126, and Trent Brenner came in third at 182.
