Class 4A, second round

(7) Loveland (11-0) at (15) Broomfield (7-4)

Kickoff: Saturday, 1 p.m., Elizabeth Kennedy Stadium

Quick hits: Put simply, it was a good day this past Saturday for Broomfield High with the football team’s upset of Windsor only slightly upstaged by the soccer team’s capture of the 5A state title … After beating the Wizards 31-0, this second round will once again match BHS with a team it has already played this season. Loveland defeated BHS in Week 6, 28-21 … The Indians have a weird winning streak going. Loveland hasn’t lost since Week 6 of last year (against the Eagles) — giving them 15 straight victories. It’s weird because they didn’t make playoffs last year despite going 9-2 … Last week, LHS used 41 carries and 194 yards from Zach Weinmaster to defeat Ponderosa, and it’s been Weinmaster’s show the past three ball games … Broomfield’s effort was led by Steven Croell’s four total touchdowns and 145 rushing yard combined between Mitchell Gorman and Dylan Torres … Theses teams have alternated wins and losses in the series ever since 2012 (each is 3-3). This is just the second playoff meeting in that time (2013 first round, a 33-6 LHS win).

Bottom line: Broomfield’s season turned around after losing to the Indians back on October 6, but Loveland is a tough-nosed team that has allowed just 74 points this year. The Eagles played their best game last week but might have to be better than their best again.
