Kyle West has helped the Skyline Falcons reach the playoffs for the first time since 1999. They face Chatfield Friday night at 6 p.m.

Class 4A, first round

Kickoff: Friday, 6 p.m., Trailblazer Stadium (6th Ave. and Kipling Blvd.)

Quick hits: For the first time since 1999, Skyline is a playoff football team and there is a ton of excitement surrounding the Falcons’ overall direction under coach Mike Silva … The Falcons find themselves with the state’s leading rusher (in 11-man football) in junior Jeremy Hollingsworth (1,899 yards, 31 TD’s) and the state’s most offensive team in yards gained (4,608). That has parlayed into 50 points a game on average … Nate McGregor (2,370 total yards) and Kyle West (1,175 total yards) are just juniors, too … Chatfield, the 4A Plains League champs, have similar video game-like numbers while spreading the production among many players … The Chargers have outscored opponents 475-118, and mixed in there is a very impressive 35-14 win over 5A Columbine — the Rebels’ only loss of the season … 11 different players have scored a total of 50 rushing touchdowns, led by Ben Frenette’s 20 scores … Chatfield also has 24 takeaways.

Bottom line: The signs point to a shootout, and it will be interesting to see if the Falcons can outduel a tough team after coming up just a bit short against Monarch and Windsor this season. Skyline’s discipline in the biggest game in years will be huge.
