When the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Classification and League Organization Committee met earlier this week, the setting of enrollment splits for the classification of each of the state’s high school sports except football for the 2018-20 two-year cycle produced a bit of local news.
Under the new enrollment cutoffs, Skyline would have moved from 4A to 5A. But the school asked to reclassify under bylaw 1500.21, which allows a school to drop to a lower classification if it meets several factors. Skyline’s request was approved and the Falcons will remain in 4A.
With its request to have its softball program, specifically, play down a classification under bylaw 1500.27 being approved, Boulder softball will move from 5A to 4A. Similarly, Mead boys soccer play down from 4A to 3A. Neither Boulder softball nor Mead boys soccer will be eligible for the postseason.
