When the dust settled on Saturday evening at Scott Carpenter Park, the field at the American Legion Western Region 8 Tournament was properly whittled from four teams down to two, and Arizona Post 7 (3-1) and Hawaii Post 35 (4-0) emerged as the squads who will battle for Sunday’s regional title.

A trip to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina is at stake as the teams will play at 1 p.m. Should Arizona Post 7 win that game, a second contest will be required at 4 p.m.

The two teams have strung together a lot of offense over the course of the past four days, and Sunday’s championship series will be a rematch of a game played Thursday. Hawaii walked away from that game victorious, 9-5.

Here’s a look at how they made it to championship Sunday:

Arizona Post 7 8, New Mexico Post 13 7

After falling behind by as much as 6-4 in the top of the fifth inning, Tucson rallied behind the middle of its order and allowed its relievers to use the momentum. Manuel Ramirez, Andres Hackman, Miguel Figueroa and Trevelle Hill combined to go 7 for 17 with six runs scored, and Ramon Vega pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Hawaii Post 35 11, California Post 17 4

Hawaii’s offense has blossomed since the start of the tournament, and there were plenty of contributors on Saturday that kept them in the driver’s seat for the event. Kody Cacal was 2 for 4 with four RBI, Tyler Yamaguchi had three hits and Brandon Henderson had three RBI for Hawaii, which used a four-run fifth frame to gain a cushion on Chico.
