Former Fairview star Shane O’Neill will have an opportunity to show off his growing Major League Soccer skills in a national showcase before his hometown fans.

On Monday, the Colorado Rapids defender was named to the roster of the MLS Homegrown Game on July 28 as part of the league’s All-Star Game festivities at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The MLS Homegrown team, comprised entirely of players who worked their way to MLS rosters through the league’s Development Academy programs, will be coached by Landon Donovan and will take on the Club America U20 team.

Signed by the Rapids on June 19, 2012 just weeks after graduating from Fairview, O’Neill is in his third full MLS season and also appeared in two games for the U.S. in the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. In January, O’Neill trained with the U.S. National Team.

O’Neill will compete in the Homegrown Game alongside teammate Dillon Serna. The Rapids are just one of two MLS teams that will feature two players in the Homegrown Game.
