Mitchell Ward, Peak to Peak baseball: Peak to Peak’s 3A state tournament appearance didn’t go entirely as planned, but Ward was a huge mound presence in the Pumas’ lone tourney win against Gunnison. A relief pitcher for most of 2015, the senior started against the Cowboys and hurled seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out six and walking a pair. He also went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the game, helping the Pumas make school history with their first state tournament victory.

Shannon Mooney, Broomfield soccer: A sensational season from the Broomfield junior keeper was upended by a surprising Grandview squad in the Class 5A title game, but Mooney did everything in her power to keep the Eagles within a goal until the final minutes against the Wolves. She had a huge save right before halftime to preserve a 1-0 deficit, and she finished with eight saves in the contest at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
