As expected, the weather already is scuttling a number of district baseball tournaments involving local teams.

The Class 4A District 6 tournament, which was set to be hosted by Erie and features a first-round game between host Erie and Longmont in a local showdown of league champions, already has been pushed to Tuesday. Palisade, which takes on Discovery Canyon in the other first-round game, has its graduation on Monday and cannot play until Tuesday at the earliest.

Erie athletic director Richie Wildenhaus noted the venue may change as well depending on the state of the Tigers’ athletic fields. The Tuesday game times remain the same, with the Longmont-Erie battle slated for 10 a.m.

Likewise, Monarch has postponed the 5A District 3 tournament the Coyotes were supposed to host, including their opener against Northglenn. Monarch reported it is taking a “first available day” approach to getting the tournament underway, though that day is not likely to arrive until Monday at the earliest.

Holy Family’s date in the 4A District 7 tournament at Wheat Ridge has been pushed to Monday as well. Tigers coach Eric Nakayama said potential alternate sites are being explored at Metro State and Valor Christian, but that has yet to be finalized.

In 3A, Peak to Peak’s District 4 tournament at Manitou Springs has been moved to Monday, with the start time for the first game pushed back to 11 a.m. That means the 12th-seeded Pumas will take on Alamosa at about 1:30 p.m. The venue may shift from Manitou to nearby Vista Ridge High School.

In Class 2A, local squads Dawson and Lyons also had their District 4 tournament pushed back to Monday. The game times remain the same, with Lyons opening the action at 10 a.m. at Bigfoot Turf Farms in LaSalle.

As of Friday evening, Fairview’s 5A District 6 tournament at Mountain Vista remained on schedule, but that was changed early Saturday morning. The tournament is now tentatively slated for Monday morning.

“They told us (Friday afternoon) that they could play right now on their fields,” Fairview coach Rick Harig said.

This report will be updated as information becomes available.
