The Broomfield girls soccer squad began its playoff run by making a strong statement against the Grand Junction Tigers. In the first game of the 5A state tournament, the No. 4 seeded Eagles shut out No. 29 seeded Grand Junction to advance to the next round.
While Grand Junction struggled getting shots off, Broomfield took a 3-0 lead in the first half, relying on multiple players to get the job done. Junior Michaela Stark chipped in two goals, while freshman Gia Lemley and sophomore Evelynn Cousey scored one apiece. Sophomores Jordan Goodwin and Cara Quinn also pitched into the offensive effort with one assist each.
The second round of the tournament will be played statewide on Friday, with higher seeds hosting. Broomfield, now 14-1-1, will host the Regis Jesuit Raiders (7-5-4). Start time is to be determined.
