DENVER — Not only was Wednesday’s final 4A Metro League golf tournament the final regular season match before regional tournaments begin on Monday, it was a career finale for Peak to Peak senior Emily Long.

Though the season is not yet over, Long has an AP exam on Monday that will prevent her from competing in regionals. So Long decided to make the most of Wednesday’s tournament, placing in a tie for ninth with a score of 48 on the par-36 West 9 at John F. Kennedy Golf Course in Denver.

More than anything else, Long was ready for her final tournament knowing that the young Peak to Peak team will be in good shape when she leaves.

“I’m really proud of everyone,” Long said. “It’s definitely a growing team and everyone has improved a lot this season. I’ve been playing since I was a freshman. I’ve had a pretty good run.”

Long may not have matched her season low, which she carded as a 41 in the first tournament of the season, but it was a good day. Her best hole was a par on the par-4 fifth.

“Golf is always like, you hit a bad shot and then you hit a good shot,” Long said. “There was some of that today. But it was a good tournament to end on. The course is in good shape. It’s a little tricky on the greens but it’s a good course.”

Overall, Peak to Peak finished fourth on Wednesday with a three-player team score of 153. Jefferson Academy was first with 125 and Colorado Academy was second with 128.

Samantha Pursley placed 15th with a 52 and Kenayde Lampros carded a 53 to take 17th.

With regionals on Monday, Peak to Peak head coach Missy Schreiner said she is happy with the way her team is playing down the stretch, especially with a new varsity player making her debut.

“We had a great day,” Schreiner said. “It was a great final day for Emily and she kind of passed the torch to Vienna DeFalco, who played her first varsity event ever today. It was stressful and she hung in there like a champ and I’m just really proud of my team today. Emily has been such a great member of the team for so long and we’ll miss Emily at regionals.”

DeFalco shot a 66 in her first varsity appearance.
