The Broomfield High School gym held a close game between the Coyotes and the Eagles Thursday night. Monarch found themselves with the lead at the end of every quarter, but Broomfield would give the Coyotes a run for their money, particularly during a critical time in the fourth quarter. A dunk by Broomfield junior Jack Burgesser tied the game 25-25 with less than 5 minutes remaining.

Monarch displayed their unwillingness to let Broomfield back in the game by outscoring the Eagles in the final minutes. Despite the fact that Broomfield matched Monarch in fourth quarter scoring, Monarch’s 12-3 run late in the game determined the difference.

Neither team had an individual scorer in double figures, but both sought contributions from multiple players to add up their respective scores. Monarch scoring leaders included Eric Lawson with nine, Shawn Kirkman with eight, and Mac Rowan with eight, while Broomfield’s top scorers were Burgesser and Logan McCormick with eight apiece.

Broomfield will quickly turn around to play on the road Friday night against Fossil Ridge at 6:30 p.m. Monarch boys will begin February at home next Tuesday against Legacy. Start time will also be 6:30 p.m.
