    Strong defense from Maddie Uilk (8) was a key component behind the first state tournament appearance for the Mead Mavericks.




OH — Cori Kirschling, Sr., Niwot: The and 4A Northern League Player of the Year, the Cougars senior was third in 4A with 381 kills and led her team back to the state tournament for the first time since 1997.

OH — Makenna Rockeman, Sr., Legacy: The University of Sioux Falls recruit showed off her myriad skills this season with 303 kills, 41 blocks and 254 digs for the Lightning.

MB — Maddie Uilk, Sr., Mead: Eighth in 4A with 95 blocks and a 200-plus kills threat on offense, she was named the 4A Tri-Valley League Player of the Year and guided the Mavericks’ first-ever state tournament appearance.

OH — Elizabeth Potter, Sr., Silver Creek: Seventh in 4A with 345 kills, the 4A Northern League first-teamer tied with Kirschling atop the conference with 4.3 kills per set.

OH — Gabrielle Eyl, Sr., Boulder: The Panthers’ do-it-all star, the Northeastern University-bound hitter finished 17th in 5A in both kills (299) and digs (374).

L — Kailey Klibbe, Sr., Mead: A major piece in all 21 of the Mavericks’ wins, the senior averaged 5.6 digs per set and finished 10th in 4A.

S — Audrey Cheng, So., Fairview: Still just a sophomore, she racked up 664 assists and a 7.7 per-match average to keep the Knights’ balanced attack on course toward the state tournament.

S — Jennifer Townsend, Sr., Niwot: Selected to the 4A Northern League first team, the senior setter was fifth in 4A with 757 assists for the resurgent Cougars.

Coach of the year — Brooke Simmons, Fairview: She led her team on a 17-match win streak to start the season, a runner-up finish in the 5A Front Range League and the team’s first state tournament appearance since 1998.
