A look at the quarterfinal round matchups for all the local entrants in the boys soccer state tournaments.


(22) Chatfield at (3) Boulder

When: 7 p.m., Saturday, Recht Field

Records: Chatfield 11-4-2; Boulder 13-1-3

Notes: The beat goes on for the Panthers, who are now unbeaten in 16 straight games, including Wednesday’s 1-0 overtime thriller against Poudre … Boulder added extra depth with the return of junior forward Jack Dooley from injury … Dooley scored the game-winner against the same Poudre team against whom he suffered a broken collarbone early in the season … The key for the Panthers will be to not get too far ahead of themselves. They know they are favored based on seeding alone, but they can’s just dismiss the 22nd-seeded Chargers … Jumping out early and burying Chatfield is imperative, as the longer an underdog hangs around in a match, the more dangerous they become … Chatfield upset Rangeview in the first round and then held off No. 27 Westminster 4-3 in overtime in Round 2 … Ben Overholt, who scored the overtime game-winner on Wednesday, leads the Chargers with 15 goals this season … Chatfield finished fourth in the Jefferson County League … The winner will advance to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. semifinal at Legacy Stadium in Aurora against the winner of the Pine Creek-Smoky Hill game.

(8) Fairview at (1) Rock Canyon

When: 4 p.m., Saturday, Shea Stadium

Records: Fairview 12-5; Rock Canyon 15-1-1

Notes: Fairview enters the match on an eight-game winning streak … Senior Casey Munsch has scored three of the Knights’ six postseason goals to lead wins against ThunderRidge and Grandview … Munsch and Luis Flores share top goal-scoring honors for the Knights with eight apiece. Andy Vaughn has recorded five goals and seven assists, while fellow senior Raul Magno has posted a team-leading eight assists … Senior goalie Alex Ray has stopped 16 of 18 shots in the two playoff games … Top-seeded Rock Canyon went 10-0 in the rugged Continental League to claim the conference crown … The Jaguars knocked off Grand Junction 4-1 in the first round and escaped with a 1-0 overtime win against Arvada West in the second round. Gabe Krzywdzinski scored the winner and also had a tally in the first round … Brian Olcott leads Rock Canyon with 18 goals while Krzywdzinski has compiled 11 goals and 10 assists … The winner will play either Broomfield or Doherty in the state semifinals.

(12) Broomfield at (4) Doherty

When: 2 p.m., Saturday, Garry Berry Stadium

Records: Broomfield 10-4-3; Doherty 14-2-1

Notes: It’s hard to think of Broomfield as an underdog when it comes to soccer, but based on seeding, the Eagles will continually wear that moniker as the tournament proceeds … On Wednesday, Broomfield earned a 2-0 shutout of Mountain Vista in Round 2 … In two playoff games, coach Jim Davidson’s side has outscored their opponents 5-0 … The defensive effort in front of goalie Michael Genge has been clean and organized, allowing just six shots on target in the playoffs … Porter Milner makes the Eagles go from his central midfield position and the junior has two of Broomfield’s five playoff goals … Fourth-seeded Doherty survived a penalty kick shootout in the opening round win over Aurora Central and then scored a 3-2 double overtime victory over Cherry Creek in Round 2 … The Spartans shared the 5A Colorado Springs Metro League title with Pine Creek … Junior Delgado scored twice for Doherty against Cherry Creek and has eight goals for the season … Doug Fajardo should draw a majority of the Broomfield attention — the striker leads Doherty with nine goals … The winner will face either top-seeded Rock Canyon or Fairview on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Legacy Stadium in the semifinals.


(5) Niwot at (4) D’Evelyn

When: 6 p.m., Saturday, Lakewood Memorial Stadium

Records: Niwot 15-1-1; D’Evelyn 15-2

Notes: Niwot routed D’Evelyn 7-2 in the first round of the 4A playoffs last year … Since a loss against Fort Lupton on Sept. 10, the Cougars have won 12 consecutive games … Junior Justin Barkow has been a scoring machine for the Cougars, recording team-leading totals of 20 goals and 12 assists … Barkow has certainly has plenty of help from Billy Hoffmann (nine goals, eight assists), Mark Ramirez (nine goals), Touzong Xiong (eight goals, 11 assists), Jackson Casmey (eight goals) and Eric Fayeulle (five goals, nine assists) … D’Evelyn suffered a 3-0 loss Oct. 16 at Centaurus — the same Centaurus squad Niwot defeated 2-1 in the second round on Tuesday … D’Evelyn recorded wins of 4-1 against Steamboat Springs and 2-0 against Fort Lupton to advance to the quarterfinals … Sophomore Wesley Tedstrom leads D’Evelyn with 10 goals. Senior Christian Denton has added seven … The winner will face either Littleton or top-seeded Air Academy in the state semifinals on Wednesday.


(19) Peak to Peak at (6) Colorado Academy

When: 3:30 p.m., Friday, Colorado Academy

Records: Peak to Peak 9-8; Colorado Academy 13-4

Notes: Peak to Peak advanced to the quarterfinals behind a pair of wild wins in the Region 3 bracket at Roaring Fork. The Pumas escaped the first round by defeating Pagosa Springs in a penalty kick shootout before twice rallying from two-goal deficits in the second half against the host Rams before netting an overtime winner from Brendan Lefkowicz … The Pumas are in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010 … Nathan Dee leads Peak to Peak with 14 goals and also has collected eight assists. Sophomore Miguel Arriaga has recorded nine goals and junior Daniel Griffith has posted six goals and a team-leading 12 assists … Rivals in the Region 6 league, Colorado Academy posted a 2-1 win at Peak to Peak on Oct. 7 … The Mustangs posted shutout wins against Fountain Valley and Sheridan in the first two rounds of the tournament … The winner will play either 10th-seeded Salida or second-seeded Frontier Academy in the semifinals on Wednesday.
