The Boulder Panthers hope more celebrations are in store when they host Poudre Wednesday in the second round of the 5A state tournament.

(19) Poudre at (3) Boulder

When: 7 p.m., Wednesday at Recht Field

Records: Poudre (8-6-2); Boulder (12-1-3).

Notes: In the playoffs, rematches are inevitable and with seven Front Range League teams making the 5A bracket they usually come sooner than later … On Sept. 16, Boulder left French Field in Fort Collins after a 1-1 double overtime draw with the Impalas that ended up as the only flaw on their unbeaten Front Range League title slate … In that game, Boulder’s Quinn Liebmann scored in the 25th minute, a goal that was matched early in the second half by Poudre’s Daniel Contreras … Boulder fell behind early in the first round to No. 30 Adams City, evened the match in the first half, and then got a second-half goal from Leroy Alphonse to advance … Alphonse is the team leader with eight goals, two ahead of junior Brian Castruita … Leo Huettel made three saves against Adams City and did the same against Poudre in the first matchup … Poudre has won four straight games, including a big win over Broomfield at the end of the regular season and a 1-0 playoff victory at Heritage … The Impalas are just 2-6 on the road this season … Contreras leads Poudre with eight goals this season … Up next for the winner will be an unlikely foe in either No. 22 Chatfield or No. 27 Westminster on Saturday.

(9) Grandview at (8) Fairview

When: 6 p.m., Wednesday

Records: Grandview (11-4-1); Fairview (11-5).

Notes: With its first round win over ThunderRidge last week, Fairview ran its winning streak to seven straight … The Knights, who vowed to put the memory of last year’s first-round playoff exit behind them, shook off a 1-0 halftime deficit to the Grizzlies by scoring four second-half goals … Casey Munsch scored twice last week to increase his season total to seven, just one behind Luis Flores, who bagged the game winning goal in the 55th minute … Fairview played just one Centennial League team this year, losing to Cherry Creek 4-2 on Sept. 27 … By contrast, Grandview defeated the Bruins 2-1 in league play … Senior goalie Alex Ray, who faced just four shots, will likely see that number go up against a Wolves team that scored five times on nine shots in an opening round win over Rocky Mountain … Sophomore Rhys DeSota scored three times against Rocky and has a season total of 16 … The winner will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal against the winner of the match between top-seeded Rock Canyon and Arvada West.

(12) Broomfield at (5) Mountain Vista

When: 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at Shea Stadium

Records: Broomfield (9-4-3); Mountain Vista (11-3-2).

Notes: The Eagles were impressive all the way around in their 3-0 first round win at home against Lakewood … Broomfield went 2-2-3 on the road this year. … One of those draws was to the Continental’s Heritage — a 0-0 game — a team that Mountain Vista defeated 2-1 during league play … It will be imperative for coach Jim Davidson’s team to get off to quick start and not let Mountain Vista establish any sort of control of possession … Davidson referred to Mountain Vista as a “very similar” team to his own and there is some familiarity with he Golden Eagles; the two teams scrimmaged earlier in the season … Broomfield got an unexpected offensive boost against Lakewood from senior defender Chris Sharkey, who not only scored his first goal of the season, but also set up the second goal from Cody Ewing … Mountain Vista is 3-2 in its last five games, with all three victories coming via shutout … The Golden Eagles are 0-0-2 against Front Range League teams this season … Saturday’s quarterfinal will be against the winner of the Doherty-Cherry Creek game.
