Though they had only played three games apiece, both Longmont and Fort Collins had seen certain repeating themes throughout their early-season contests.

Fort Collins has had success in keeping its opponents out of the end zone thanks to its ability to force turnovers, while Longmont has struggled with giving the ball away on offense.

It was more of the same Thursday evening in a low-scoring affair, as the fifth-ranked Lambkins took advantage of five Trojans turnovers to secure a 13-7 victory at French Field.

After surrendering the first 10 points of the game, Longmont (1-3) began to make some noise late in the first half, punching in a score on a Clint Sigg rush from two yards out to cut the lead to three with under 2 minutes remaining. The Trojans had another chance to score with seconds on the clock, but Fort Collins (4-0) picked off a pass to end any hope of the visitors nabbing the lead.

Neither team had much success on offense from there on out. LHS again threatened again late in the game, moving the ball into Fort Collins territory with just over a minute left, yet another interception effectively ended the affair.

Longmont’s Eli Sullivan caught three passes for 63 yards, while Conlan Berger led the LHS ground attack with 50 yards on 13 carries.
