Having already played extra time in three out of its first four games, it was only natural that the seventh-ranked Boulder boys soccer team took top-ranked Denver East to OT when the two teams met Tuesday night.

And in another reccurring theme, Brian Castruita once again played the hero for the Panthers.

After scoring the winning goal late to beat to beat Fairview in overtime last week, the junior midfielder scored another big goal, taking a pass from Sushi Gurung in the 86th minute and sending it inside the far post to knock off the newly-minted No. 1 team in the latest CHSAANow.com Class 5A poll.

Boulder (2-1-2) took the lead in the 20th minute when Jack Dooley took a pass from Gurung and beat the Angels’ keeper, but it was not to last. East (2-2) tied the game a minute later to make it 1-1, a score that stood until the game’s final play.

“It’s been a challenging first five games,” Boulder head coach Hardy Kalisher said. “But I think we’re ready now going into Front Range League play.”
