It always is one of the premier meets on the cross country slate each fall. Given last year’s edition of the annual St. Vrain Invitational was run just before torrential floods devastated the course right alongside the rest of the town of Lyons, the 2014 race will add a special fund-raising twist.
When fans arrive for the event, which begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and features dozens of teams from around the state, fans will be asked to pay for parking. Unusual? Maybe. But in this case it’s for a very good cause.
The $5 per car fee will be taken as a donation for the Lyons Parks and Recreation Department to help the town’s continuing renovation work from the floods that tore through the town a year ago this month.
Because the parking area now features less overall space due to flood damage, fans are encouraged to carpool, and some parking will be re-directed to the side streets of the neighborhood surrounding Lyons High School.
Also, organizers want to remind fans dogs are not allowed on the course. Be warned that tickets will be issued.
With an overflow crowd expected (as usual) for the annual Boulder-Fairview football showdown Saturday, fans may purchase tickets ahead of time at either school on Thursday and Friday.
Boulder will be selling tickets throughout the day on both days in the school’s athletic office. Fairview will sell its tickets at the school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
