When it comes to fundraising efforts, give the Monarch softball team an A-plus for creativity.

On Saturday, the Coyotes are staging a Hit-a-Thon event, in which the main event will feature nearby mayors squaring off against Monarch’s new coaches.

Superior Mayor Andrew Muckle and his brother, Louisville mayor Bob Muckle, will attempt to crush softballs against Coyotes head coach Erika Trujillo and JV coach Hayley Bolyard.

The event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Coyotes’ home diamond, also features a parents challenge, in which parents of Monarch players can step up to the plate against their daughters.

Players have been taking pledges and donations for their furthest hit. For instance, a pledge of 10 cents per foot would result in a contribution of $22.50 for a hit of 225 feet.

Monarch is aiming to raise money for a new sound system and a bevy of other needed equipment.

Questions can be directed to Trujillo at mohisoftball@gmail.com.
