The steady rains that soaked the region on Wednesday erased the first day of the Legion A state baseball tournament.
Assuming the weather begins to cooperate, the full first-day slate instead will be held Thursday, with the biggest adjustment being the adding of a second venue in hopes of still concluding the eight-team, double-elimination tournament on Sunday.
Instead of holding the entire tournament at Fairview High School, games also will be played at Scott Carpenter Park.
The first-round opponents for the two local teams remains unchanged on Thursday, with the Longmont-based Twins Blue taking on Pomona at Fairview at 11 a.m. The host Knights follow with a date against Class 5A state champion Rocky Mountain. The winners of those games will play immediately afterward at Fairview at 4 p.m.
Games are scheduled to be held in the back draw as well as the winners’ bracket throughout the day on Friday, leading up to the semifinals on Saturday and the championship series on Sunday.
A look at the tentative first-round schedule on Thursday:
Brigton vs. Eaton, 11 a.m. (at Scott Carpenter Park)
Gene Taylor vs. Greeley GoJo, 1:30 p.m. (at Scott Carpenter Park)
Twins Blue vs. Pomona, 11 a.m. (at Fairview)
Rocky Mountain vs. Fairview, 1:30 p.m. (at Fairview)
