The season is over for the Boulder Stars 18U softball squad after falling in two games of bracket in the Triple Crown World Series in San Diego.
The Stars went 3-1 in pool play and advanced to the championship bracket, but fell 5-4 to the California-based USA A’s and were eliminated with an 11-0 loss against power-charged Hawaii Gold.
The Stars finished second at the 16U Triple Crown World Series last season in Park City, Utah, and essentially were playing up with 10 of their 15 girls still eligible to play in the younger division.
The highlight for coach Pete Sprenkle’s Stars was an inside-the-park home run by Silver Creek outfielder Cassie Jones that led to a win against the Capital City Comets in the tourney opener.
The Stars finished 33rd overall out of 90 teams and were second among Colorado teams.
