Haas Pratt knew he was taking over a polished machine this summer as the new leader of the Colorado Twins Blue baseball squad.

Winning championships and barreling through the first portion of the summer undefeated have provided an extra thrill.

The club continued its winning ways on Sunday, defeating Brighton 3-2 in the championship game of the Cherry Creek Classic. The six victories in the tournament pushed the Twins Blue’s record to 10-0.

“Being 10-0 at this point of the season is outstanding,” Pratt said. “Brighton has a good group too and they played really well. But sometimes it comes down to having the mental focus to make the routine plays over and over, and our guys have been doing a great job of that.”

Recent Niwot graduate Tanner Kirkpatrick put the Twins Blue ahead with a two-run triple, the highlight of the squad’s three-run second inning. From there, Longmont graduate Will Amen took care of things on the pitching mound, allowing just one unearned run in five innings while notching six strikeouts.

Danny Caruso went 1 for 3 and drove in the Twins Blue’s final run.

“Kirkpatrick got us going with that triple and Amen did a great job on the mound and held them down,” Pratt said. “It was a very well-played game on both sides.”
