First round

(28) Highlands Ranch at (5) Fairview

When: Tuesday, 5 p.m.

Records: Highlands Ranch 6-9; Fairview 13-2.

Notes: The state runner-up two seasons ago, Fairview reached the quarterfinals last season … Junior Reci Smith leads Fairview with 19 goals and has produced multiple goals in seven games … Highlands Ranch finished eighth in the 12-team Continental League and essentially earned its postseason bid on strength-of-schedule points … The only common opponent for the two teams was Fossil Ridge, which edged Fairview for the Front Range League crown after defeating the Knights 2-1 on April 25. The Falcons lost to Fossil Ridge 9-1 in their season opener … The winner will play either Legacy or ThunderRidge in the second round on Friday.

(22) Cherokee Trail at (11) Monarch

When: Tuesday, 4 p.m.

Records: Cherokee Trail 7-8; Monarch 8-5-2.

Notes: Monarch has made a stirring return to the postseason after enduring a one-win campaign a year ago … The Coyotes’ turnaround has been sparked by Florida-bound senior Cassie Owens, who has recorded 11 goals and two assists … Junior goalie Kaylee Mickens has started every game for the Coyotes and boasts an .890 save percentage … Cherokee Trail features one of the top freshmen in the state in Rebekah Burton, who leads the Cougars with 13 goals and shares the team lead with five assists … The winner will play either Arapahoe or Rocky Mountain in the second round on Friday.

(21) ThunderRidge at (12) Legacy

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m., Five Star Stadium.

Records: ThunderRidge 8-5-2, Legacy 11-3-1.

Notes: Legacy reached the state semifinals last year for the first time in the program’s history … The Lightning enters the postseason on the heels of a 3-2 loss against Boulder and a draw against Monarch. Prior to those games, Legacy put together a seven-game winning streak … Georgia-bound senior Kelsey Killean has recorded eight goals and a team-leading eight assists for the Lightning. Junior Makenna O’Grady leads the club with nine goals … After a 2-3 start, ThunderRidge went 6-2-2 the rest of the way … Four players have scored at least six goals for the Grizzlies — Kayla Hill (8), Riley Welch (7), Kaley Tucker (7), and Madi Keith (6).

(23) Boulder at (10) Ralston Valley

When: Tuesday, 4 p.m., North Area Athletic Complex.

Records: Boulder 7-6-2; Ralston Valley 12-3.

Notes: Boulder recovered from a midseason 0-3-1 stretch to go 4-2-1 down the stretch and earn one of the 11 at-large berths to the 5A postseason … That said, the Panthers went only 1-2-1 in their final four games, with the victory occurring in a 3-2 decision against Legacy … Ralston Valley finished second in the 5A Jeffco League and has won five of its past six games … A pair of sophomores have paced the Mustangs’ attack, with Emma Musson compiling 11 goals and six assists and Alyssa Kaiser recording nine goals and 13 assists … The winner will play either Heritage or Cherry Creek on Friday.
