Powder Puff football has long been the staple for females venturing casually into a predominantly male sport. Well, there’s a new game mixing things up in Longmont.
Thanks to Silver Creek student athletes Margaret Davis and Julie Dauer, Ruff Puff boy’s volleyball is coming to Longmont. It’s for fun. And it’s for a good cause.
“The elderly community of Longmont touches and warms our hearts,” Davis said. “Julie and I just wanted to combine our love of volleyball with helping an organization that does so much for this town.”
That organization is Longmont Meals on Wheels, which provides hot, nutritious meals to elderly and disabled members of the local community. The tournament is for only male SCHS students and staff (Yes, there is a staff team) but anyone is welcome to come check out the fun. The tournament runs from 5 p.m. to around 9 p.m. this Saturday at Silver Creek High School.
There is no cost to watch the tournament, however monetary donations are encouraged and greatly appreciated. All outside donations will go directly to Meals on Wheels. Each team is responsible for donating a certain amount of a specific food item that will go directly to Meals on Wheels.
“Meals on Wheels is a great organization that benefits very important members of the community,” Dauer said. “What better way to help them out than getting a ton of boys together in a game of volleyball that will benefit their organization.”
Both multi-sport athletes and avid volleyball players, Davis and Dauer have also both been members of the Silver Creek Leadership Academy since they were freshmen. Putting on the tournament is their collaborative idea for their senior capstone project.
Davis and Dauer invite you join them in support of a good cause. The volleyball should be plenty entertaining, well, funny, so stop by and check it out for a bit and do your good deed for the day.
