Shining Mountain’s Paisley Sheehan

Phil Downing, Broomfield wrestling: Just 16 wrestlers in the state’s history had done it before him, and Downing was poised to join that exclusive club at the Pepsi Center last week. By way of three falls and a major decision of Pueblo County’s Keenan Willits in the state championship bout, Downing won the 4A 160-pound weight class title to become Colorado’s 17th four-time state champion. Broomfield also won its second consecutive 4A team title in Pat DeCamilis’ first year.

Paisley Sheehan, Shining Mountain basketball: The Lions were busy last week as 1A district tournaments began, and Shining Mountain went 2-1 with its lone loss coming by one point to Vail Christian. Sheehan averaged better than 15 points for the week, highlighted by a 23-point effort against Community Christian that included going 9 for 13 from the field. The junior also had 13 total rebounds and 10 steals.
