Boys
Forrest Lalaguna, Centaurus wrestling: As should be the case, Lalaguna is headed to the Pepsi Center this week, having been ranked all season at 182 pounds in Class 5A. But Lalaguna proved he is ready for the big stage by cruising through the 5A Region 3 tourney this past weekend, beating Fairview’s Cito Balsells in the championship match 7-0. Lalaguna improved to a hefty 28-6 overall, and will look to take advantage of his first state showing.
Girls
Amanda Richey, Boulder swimming: Richey had a busy day in the pool for the Panthers at her final Class 5A state meet, but she certainly went out in style. Seeded second in the 500 freestyle for the finals, Richey set the pace and was able to hold on to the gold-medal placing, swimming to a personal at-altitude best of 4 minutes, 50.62 seconds. She also placed third in the 200 free (her best finish in that event at state), and helped two Boulder relay teams score points.
