The reporting crew was slightly shorthanded on Friday night, but it was with good reason.

Longtime Colorado prep sports reporter Jon Yunt, a member of the team since July, was awarded the Dorothy Mauk Award on Friday night by the United States Tennis Association of Colorado. Yunt received the honor during a ceremony at the Denver Tech Center that also included the organization’s Hall of Fame induction.

A former tennis player at Douglas County High School under current Fairview girls tennis coach Susan Stensrud, Yunt was given of a Mauk Award that recognizes “Journalistic excellece covering tennis in the state of Colorado.” Yunt covered the boys state finals for last fall and covered countless state finals and regional tournaments during a two-decade tenure with the Denver Post.

A hearty congratulations to Jon, and we’re looking forward to having him as a big part of our coverge team during the girls tennis season for the first time this spring.
