Austin Rivera, Frederick basketball: When the Warriors needed it most last week, Rivera came up big and ended up helping Frederick to a 3-0 mark with a couple of Tri-Valley League wins mixed in. In a 59-55 win against Erie, Rivera secured five offensive rebounds which helped him to 19 points, and the senior followed with a combined 18 points, 10 assists, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in wins over Berthoud and Niwot. Rivera has done just a little bit of everything for the 10-3 Warriors.
Mackenzie Dwyer, Skyline swimming: The Longmont All-City Invitational is a pretty stacked event at the top, and Dwyer proved she belonged in winning two individual events and helping the Falcons secure a state qualifying time in the 400 freestyle relay. Dwyer captured the 200 IM title in 2 minutes, 17.47 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.46 – both state qualifying marks. The Falcons’ 500 free record-holder sits eighth statewide in the IM and 12th in the back.
