The accolades keep piling up for the Fairview football team.
Less than two weeks after losing to Valor Christian in the Class 5A state championship, the Knights returned to Sports Authority Field on Thursday night. This time they exited the Denver Broncos’ stadium with a far more pleasant sense of accomplishment.
During the Broncos’ Thursday night tilt against the San Diego Chargers, Fairview was recognized for the team’s effort over the summer, when the Knights claimed the Colorado championship of the annual 7-on-7 tournament hosted by the NFL in each of the league’s cities.
By winning the state tournament in June, Fairview advanced to the NFL’s national 7-on-7 in July in Cleveland. The Knights ultimately reached the national semifinals and finished third overall, a run that many players and coaches cited as an early foundation for the remarkable success Fairview enjoyed in 2013.
On Thursday, the 12 players who made the trip to Cleveland highlighted a Fairview contingent that was awarded the Colorado 7-on-7 championship trophy at halftime of the Broncos-Chargers game.
