CLASS 5A

Local teams: Boulder, Fairview, Legacy, Monarch.

Boys runners to watch: Satchel Caldwell, Jr., Boulder; Chay Weaver, Sr., Monarch.

Girls runners to watch: Kaitlyn Benner, Sr., Monarch; Emma Gee, Jr., Legacy; Claire Green, Sr., Monarch; Isabelle Kennedy, Sr., Fairview; Elissa Mann, Jr., Monarch; Erin McLaughlin, Sr., Boulder.

Notes: The Monarch girls will be seeking their third consecutive team title … Monarch’s Green finished fifth as a sophomore but dropped to 15th last year … The Coyotes have three top-10 threats in Green, Mann, and Benner … The Boulder boys squad is coming off a win at last week’s Region 3 meet. Caldwell finished second in that race and Monarch’s Weaver took third … Gee, Kennedy and McLaughlin finished 2-3-4 at last year’s state meet … Gee is one of the favorites in the girls race after finishing second last year.

CLASS 4A

Local teams: Broomfield, Centaurus, Erie, Frederick, Niwot, Silver Creek, Skyline.

Boys runners to watch: Ethan Gonzales, Sr., Broomfield; Sam Berg, Jr., Skyline; Jacob Fisk, Jr., Niwot; Jake Link, Jr., Centaurus; Shane Mathis, Jr., Erie; Ricardo Ocampo, Sr., Broomfield.

Girls runners to watch: Christa Boettiger, Jr., Niwot; Elise Cranny, Sr., Niwot; Regan Vandepol, Jr., Broomfield.

Notes: Perhaps fans have heard of Cranny. The state’s record-holder in the one-mile run will be aiming for her second consecutive state title in her final prep cross country race. Cranny won a thriller at last year’s state meet, overtaking Air Academy’s Katie Rainsberger at the finish line … Skyline’s Berg finished fourth at the Region 4 race last week … Niwot’s Boettiger placed ninth at state last year.

CLASS 3A

Local teams: Holy Family, Peak to Peak.

Boys runners to watch: Liam Healy, Sr., Peak to Peak; Aaron Hillman, Sr., Holy Family.

Girls runners to watch: Olivia Bartoletti, So., Holy Family; Katie Chavez, So., Holy Family; Lindsey Chavez, Sr., Holy Family; Dallas Frisbie, Jr., Peak to Peak.

Notes: The Holy Family girls squad is taking aim at its second consecutive state title, but the success of both Tigers teams will depend largely on their health. Katie Chavez staggered through the finish line at regionals last week due to a sore knee, and the Holy Family boys team already is without Erich Hixson, who was injured prior to regionals. Hixson finished 10th last year … The Peak to Peak boys placed second last year, but the Pumas will compete with an entirely new lineup this year … Peak’s Frisbie placed seventh last year.

CLASS 2A

Local teams: Dawson School, Lyons, Nederland, Shining Mountain, Twin Peaks.

Boys runners to watch: Paul Roberts, So., Lyons; Chris Slade, So., Dawson School; Joel Such, So., Lyons; Marcel Such, Sr., Lyons.

Girls runners to watch: Jenna Anderson, Jr., Lyons; Ginger Hutton, So., Shining Mountain; Bailey Kuechenmeister, Sr., Nederland; Miriam Roberts, Sr., Lyons.

Notes: The Lyons boys team is seeking its second consecutive team title. Roberts (first), Marcel Such (third), and Joel Such (seventh) all finished in the top 10 last year … Miriam Roberts placed second last year while leading the Lyons girls to a second-place team finish … Nederland’s Kuechenmeister finished seventh at state last year … Junior Jaen Chavez enters the record books as the first state qualifier from first-year CHSAA program Twin Peaks.
