ETHAN MARKS, Monarch football — Marks was clearly on Montbello’s watch list entering their Mountain League battle on Saturday afternoon, but it did not seem to matter as the Coyotes running back ran roughshod against the Warriors. In addition to five touchdowns, Marks totaled 222 rushing yards and 117 receiving yards with just two catches. He averaged more than 40 yards per scoring play, the longest an early 75-yard reception that was just the beginning of a Monarch rout.
TAYLOR GILMORE, Broomfield softball — Entering October with just one home run, Gilmore’s power has amplified for the Eagles at the most important time of the season. She now has four total home runs, but none were bigger than the blast she hit Saturday against Silver Creek. With a chance to put her team into the state tournament, Gilmore hit a three-run walk-off home run to left field, a shot that resulted in a 6-4 BHS win in the regional title game. She also had an RBI in the team’s earlier game against Delta, giving her 18 for the season (10 in the past four games).
