LEGACY 30, FORT COLLINS 16

FORT COLLINS — Using a well-rounded game plan on offense and a very timely play on defense, the Legacy football team held off host Fort Collins 30-16 Friday night at French Field.

Quarterback Matt Lynch went for 153 yards through the air and connected for two TDs while throwing no picks. Taten Petersian carried the rock 22 times for 137 yards and a score on the ground. And Evan Baugh returned an interception 30 yards in the fourth to put any hopes of a Lambkin rally to rest and seal the victory.

The Lightning attack began in the second period when tailback Taten Petersian raced 63 yards down the field to give LHS a 9-0 lead. After a pair of FCHS field goals Lynch answered with a 25 yard strike to Jacob Royer to take a 16-6 lead to the locker room.

After Fort Collins tied the game in the third quarter, Lynch went back to work in the fourth. His 13 yard toss to Michael Straface broke the deadlock and gave the visitors a 23-16 advantage. Baugh then later nabbed the pick for six to put an end to the affair.

The win moves Legacy to 2-2 on the year, while Fort Collins falls to 1-3. Next up for the Bolts is a Thursday night battle as they travel to Arvada West.
