GREELEY — The Frederick softball team used a huge first inning to build an insurmountable lead Thursday evening at Northridge, ultimately taking down the Grizzlies 15-4.
The Warriors jumped out to a 9-0 advantage in the top of the first and never looked back, adding at least one run in the next four frames as well before building the necessary 10-run advantage to bring the game to an end via the mercy rule after the fifth.
Sophomore Mae Mitchell and junior Alex Dufour had plenty of success at the plate, as both went 2-for-2. Mitchell scored three times on the day and drove in two runs. Meanwhile, Dufour had a trio of runs and three RBIs.
Dufour also swiped three bags, increasing her career total to 61. That number surpasses FHS alum Lindsey Witty’s 59 for first place on the all-time steals list at the school.
Junior Antonia Villani went the distance in the circle, allowing eight hits while striking out four.
