Fairview’s Sam Martin was selected to the Mile High Sports Magazine’s All-Colorado preseason team in the August 2013 issue that recently came to newsstands. Several other area athletes from Monarch and Silver Creek are listed.

Colorado football fans — and there are plenty of you out there — should do themselves a favor and pick up the August issue of Mile High Sports Magazine (or read it free online, like I do!). This month’s issue is chock full of gridiron history, specifically on the college level.

But history is not completely written for those high school players out there who are about to get their 2013 season started, and MHSM compiled an All-Colorado football team that has a few of the area schools represented.

The selection process wasn’t disclosed, but four local sports personalities came together for the magazine to pick 56 players they felt should be some of the best in their respective positions.

At quarterback, newcomer Jay MacIntyre of Monarch sits in the same company with Brody Westmoreland (ThunderRidge) and Jacob Knipp (Ralston Valley). All three are seniors.

The Coyotes’ Ethan Marks (fullback), Cody Powers (defensive tackle) and Pete Mitchell (safety) also made the list.

Silver Creek had a pair of selections, with Isaac Miller (right tackle) and Levi Cecil (d-tackle) picked among the premier workhorses in the trenches.

Last but not least, Fairview’s Sam Martin was picked as arguably the best receiver in Colorado. He joins a list that includes Elijah Cherington (Legend), Mark Hopper (T-Ridge), Daron Harrell (Overland), Cameron Currington (Cherokee Trail) and Dylan Spradling (Ponderosa).
